Class Sessions 6 - Excel Exercise 9
MS Office 2003
Exercise 9

Exercise 9 (20 points total, 10 for your chart, 10 for your two evaluations)

Create another chart and use some of the graphic components for this exercise.

Instructions - Exercise 9

Copy/paste Exercise 4 to a new workbook.
Open Excel (a new notebook will be open automatically called Book1) >Open your Excel 1-4 file > click the EX4 tab > right click the tab > Move or Copy... > choose: Move selected sheets to: Book1, Before Sheet: Sheet1, check the Create a copy box. Rename the cop tab as EX9

  1. Hide the scores of the first two tests (only test 3 and 4 will be visible). Hide the row for Cheryl Furbee. Did any of the average, max, or min numbers change? Unhide the columns and row. Format > Row or Column > Hide or Unhide

  2. Insert a comment box to the right of your data referring to something interesting about the test grades. Format the comment box to "enhance its beauty" (use colors for borders, lines, and text). Make the comment box visible.
  3. Insert a hidden comment within the table. Note Print Preview and whether or note comments print.
  4. Add at least three different shapes (rectangle, oval, textbox, and/or autoshape) that points to some scores you want to emphasize (use an arrow, change the width and color).
  5. On the second sheet, create a chart of your choice (other than Scatter) using the Average Grade, High Grade, and Low Grade scores for the TESTS (not the individuals) - you will have 4 tests with 3 data points each. Embellish it with a title, colors, backgrounds, fill effects, etc.; in other words, format each component in a different way. Highlight data > Chart Wizard > in last step in Wizard choose "in new sheet" then Finish
  6. Add graphics (word art for the title, clip art, and pictures/images) anywhere on your "masterpiece". Make one graphic transparent, if possible. This can usually be done to the Background of the picture, NOT the picture itself. Use Format picture > Colors and Lines > Transparency Put it in front of another graphic. Can you see through the transparent one? Reverse the order. Return to the original order. Rotate the picture(s).

Add your name to the top. Save this as Ex 9. Delete the extra sheet. Name the two sheets.

Attach this file to a message and post it on the Blackboard Discussion board. Evaluate the chart and graphics of at least TWO of your classmates by opening their attachment and responding to the qualities of their presentation; be truthful in your evaluation, giving compliments where due and helpful suggestions of how to improve the layout where appropriate. Just "looks good" is not adequate. Points will be awarded for your presentation and your evaluations. Get ideas that you like from your classmates for presentations you may give in the future.
