**ALL COURSES**: If you have taken a math course at another community college or university, please see a counselor. They will see if that course matches any of our math courses and figure out which is the next course you should take.

If this is your first math course at a community college and want to skip Math 254CM, Essential Mathematics, you will need to take an assessment. Read below about Math 254CM.

It is very important for you to PREPARE for the assessment. There are sample tests at the Assessment Center website. The Algebra Readiness test places you in either Math 254CM/Math254A or Math 154. The Algebra test places you in either Math 152 or a transfer level math course.

You are allowed to take the assessment twice every 6 months. There is a one-week waiting period between the initail test and the retest.

If you enroll in a math course and receive a grade (A, B, C, D, F, Pass, No Pass or W) you may not reassess. You will be required to pass the class you enrolled in before moving on to the next math course so it is essential you start off at the right level.

**Math 254CM**/Math 254A: You are not required to take an assessment to take Math 254CM or Math 254A but are STRONGLY encouraged to do so. If you find the course too easy, once you've received a grade for the course you won't be able to skip it. (See the end of the previous paragraph.) You won't be able to go on to the next math course until you receive a passing grade in this one.

If you have taken Math 254CM more than once and haven't passed it, I would STRONGLY encourage you to take the two-semester version of this class, Math 254A and Math 254B. The on-campus Math 254CM is taught on computers. Read the info in "Should you take Math 254CM or Math 254A?" to see the differences between these classes.

**Math 154**: You either assessed into this class, passed Math 254CM, or passed Math 254B. If you have taken Math 154 more than once and haven't passed it, I would STRONGLY encourage you to take the two-semester version of this class, Math 154A and Math 154B.

**Math 152**: You either assessed into this class or passed Math 154. If you have taken Math 152 more than once and haven't passed it, I would STRONGLY encourage you to take the two-semester version of this class, Math 152A and Math 152B.
