On-line Homework |
Homework in this class is assigned and submitted
on-line at www.webassign.net.
You will need to register for the course on this site, using the class key: ucsc 6224 3694. An access code is required for this
site. It has been bundled with new
textbooks sold at Baytree Bookstore: if you did not
purchase your text there, you will need to purchase an access code. Purchase options are suggested at the
course website; you can also purchase the access code (and an e-book version
of the text) at a site specifically designed for UCSC students: http://www.cengage.com/ichapters/ucscmath. Homework will be graded electronically at
the website. The homework assignments for sections will be usually be
assigned on the day of lecture, and will usually be due a week later on the
following Friday. Homework counts 10% toward your final grade.

|
Discussion sections & Quizzes |
You must sign up for a discussion section for
this course. In these sections
teaching assistants will present more examples to supplement the class
lecture, and both practice and on-line homework will be discussed. Short quizzes will be given weekly in
section. The quizzes will cover
material that has been presented the previous week in lecture and discussed
in section. Quizzes cannot be made
up. Quizzes will count 10% toward your
final grade. |
|
Exams |
There will be two midterm exams. You will be allowed one 3”x5” card of notes
for each exam. You may not use any
graphing calculators on the exams; scientific calculators can be used. Each exam is worth 22.5% of your
grade. There will be a comprehensive
final exam. The final exam is worth
35% of your final grade. Cheating will
not be tolerated on any of the exams.
