Class Expectations

Marcella Laddon

What you can expect from me:

1)   I begin and end class on time.

2)   I come to class prepared.

3)   I am accessible during my office hours, lab hours, and by phone for class and personal business.  Please respect these times. I am usually accessible right before class begins.  This is my set-up time, but I can also answer questions.

4)   Respect and Encouragement.  I respect your decision to continue your education.  I assume you are here because you want to be. If this is not the case, drop the class.

5)   I encourage students with disabilities, including "invisible" disabilities like chronic diseases and learning disabilities, to explain their needs and appropriate accommodations to me during my office hour.  Please bring a verification of your disability and a counselor or specialist’s recommendations for accommodating your needs.

6)   I will not embarrass you nor single you out in class.

7)   I will not tolerate bigotry, racism, sexism, culturism, ageism, lifestylism, or any form of religious intolerance.

8)   I will not tolerate cheating on assigned work or exams.  My definition of cheating is copying someone else’s work, looking at someone else’s paper during an exam, writing notes on your hands, soles of shoes, using a book or classroom notes when told otherwise.  You know what I’m talking about.

9)   I will be fair.

What I expect from you:

1)   Be responsible for your materials. Skim read the section of the text we are working on before you come to class.  Bring your book and calculator to class.  Be prepared to write, bring paper and pen or pencil.

2)   Respect:  Treat classmates and classroom visitors with respect.

3)   I expect your best effort. Be responsible for your own learning.

4)   Listen when others are speaking.  Do not carry on private conversations during the lectures or guest presentations.

5)   Attend lectures/labs and be on time.  If you must be late, enter quietly & do not disrupt what is in progress.

6)   If you miss class, you are responsible for material covered.

7)   Stay for the full class period.  I do not expect to hear shuffling and book slamming 10 minutes before the period is over.

8)   If you must leave early, sit where you can make your exit quietly.

9)   Team work:  it’s a requirement on-the-job and in this class.

10)  Do all required assignments and turn them in on time.  Late work is generally not accepted.

If school is what you do when everything else in your life is perfect, please drop this class.  If you cannot abide these class expectations, please drop this class.
