Michael Strunk, M.A. is professor of world music and percussion at Cabrillo College in Aptos, on the Central California coast. In addition to world music, he teaches courses in Latin American music, West African drumming, orchestral percussion, and directs the Cabrillo Latin Ensemble. He is also on the faculty of Everett Community College in Washington state, where he teaches world music as an online course. Previously, he taught music at the University of Washington in Bothell; Bethany University in Scotts Valley; Hartnell College in Salinas; and Monterey Peninsula College.
Michael has been performing professionally for over 30 years as a drummer, timpanist,
and percussionist. As a musician and recording artist he has performed with hundreds
of artists and bands throughout the west coast region, playing everything from classical orchestral and chamber music to jazz, rock, blues, country, and musical theater. His percussion career includes the study and performance of traditional styles from other cultures of the world, especially Latin American popular and folkloric music, Indonesian gamelan, West African drumming, and Spanish flamenco.
