Welcome to my website! This site contains information about classes I teach, has some useful links, some resources for students, and some stuff about me and my interests. Join me in an ADVENTURE of learning about our great blue planet. My main academic and research interests are in field biology, with an emphasis in ecology and marine biology, as well as science education. I teach Marine Biology, Plant Biology and Ecological Principles, and Environmental Science. I also teach field courses, for Wildlands Studies (CSUMB) and lead natural history and research expeditions with Oceanic Society. I am also very involved with youth science education and am actively involved as a Principal Investigator and past Executive Director of Camp Sea Lab - an ocean and coastal science experiential learning program for youth. I was the Founding Director and Principal Investigator for the National Science Foundation funded Marine Advanced Technology Education Center. My research and field work includes temperate and tropical reef monitoring, fish biology, stream ecology, plant communities, marine mammal ecology, and recruitment and retention of students in the sciences - in particular those students underrepresented in the sciences. I am an avid scuba diver and dive instructor, and my family and I enjoy travel to Central and South America, Africa, and the South Pacific for both research and fun! See my biosketch here. |
