Friday Hiking Class Schedule
Cabrillo College Kin 44 ABC
Instructor: Phil Kaplan
Naturalist: Bill Perry
Hotline: 477-3700 x1529 (call if rain is in the forecast or to leave me a message)
***In the event of rain or other adverse conditions, the instructor will send an email to all members of the class with instructions for the day.**
Plan on arriving at 9:20 am at our meeting area. We leave in carpools at 9:30 am. Do not be late! If you are meeting us at the hike site you will need to contact me ahead of time as to the location and time. “Cost Plus” as a meeting place refers to the Gateway Plaza Shopping Center at 450 River Street in Santa Cruz, not “Costco”. For the Cost Plus hikes, we meet in the middle of the parking lot between Cost Plus and Ross. Some of the hikes have very limited parking so carpooling is important. Always check my message machine (477-3700 X1529) for weekly updates. You can also contact me via email: email@example.com

Dec 2: San Lorenzo River from Golf Club Dr. Our last hike is during Finals week and is scheduled at our regular day and time. Attendance is optional and can be used as a make-up for a previously missed class.
We may encounter poison oak, stinging nettle, ticks, wasps and mosquitoes on many of our hikes. Light-colored lightweight long pants and insect repellent are advisable. Always check for ticks and shower and wash clothes to avoid poison oak after each hike. Depending on the time of the year, expect muddy or dusty conditions. Bring plenty of water and energy snacks and wear sunscreen. Good footwear is required. Arrive early to use the restroom as we will be in areas without facilities.
Special Note: Extensive hiking resources along with Frequently Asked Questions, nearly all of our course handouts and class photos can be found on my web site. We are collecting old cell phones, printer cartridges, any small electronics and energy bar wrappers (foil inside) to raise funds for the Orangutan Conservancy and Native Animal Rescue.
