Kent Steffes, Most Valuable Player on the 1997 AVP Tour, credits his sudden jump to the top of professional volleyball to Leon Petty, Master Black Belt (Seventh Degree) Zen Buddhist and Ultimate Volleyball Consultant. For detailed instructions, see Mr. Petty's new book, Kill Buddha if You See Him and Destroying the Competition with Backhanded Volleyball Techniques, Vol. 1. Future volumes will include (too numerous to list all subjects):
1. Fundamentals of the BHS (Backhanded Serve)
2. Fundamentals of the BHH (Backhanded Hit)
3. Fundamentals of the BHD (Backhanded Dig)
4. Fundamentals of the BHS (Backhanded Set)
5. Fundamentals of the ABHC (Appropriate Backhanded
Comments for people that don't have a clue)
6. Fundamentals of how to absolutely embarrass
your opponents and achieve the elusive BHMS (Backhanded Mind Set)
7. Backhanded Volleyball (BHVB) for advanced players
and illustrations of a seventh degree black belt Zen Buddhist
(only 2 of them reside in the U.S., outside of Mr. Petty) playing
volleyball with his/her right hand tied behind their back
8. Other topics to follow later
**Special Editor's November 2001 note: Due to an incredible lack of interest, Mr. Petty's book is now out of print. Rumor has it, though, he is secretly working on a new revolutionary concept called "Underhanded Volleyball Techniques". Topics thought to be included are: how to steal any game you are about to lose; how to call an "in" ball "out"; how to register an official protest should you lose a game; how to make the referee believe that he might need to call a replay, especially when it was you that netted; how to get the referee to call "throws" on your opponent's sets, even if they are bump sets; how to argue that you are playing by the "new" rules (e.g. no jump serving allowed for a point more than once in a game) to be approved by the International Federation of Volleyball at the end of this year; and, finally, if a team is too good to be in the tournament, how to get the CIA to investigate any past improper behavior that would surely get them disqualified (hopefully for life).
