Office Hours: One-half hour before class and after class or by arrangement
Class Schedule: TTH 1-3 PM (Last 10 minutes is considered “Passing Time”)

Objectives:
The purpose of Beach Volleyball is to introduce, review and improve upon the basic skills of passing, setting, spiking, serving, and team play. More advanced techniques and tactics will be introduced including communication patterns, attack variations, blocking and digging skills, serving options, and mental aspects of competition. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in various offensive and defensive situations.

Format:
Each class will typically include warm-up, stretching, movement patterns, conditioning, individual skill development, patterns of team play, game-like situations, and a cool down. Weekly tournaments will be held. This class is designed to be fun and very active. It will also contribute significantly to physical fitness, skill proficiency, competitive experience and an appreciation of "power" beach volleyball.
Requirements:
Students are expected to attend class on a regular basis and come with a positive attitude toward learning and participation. Layered clothing, a hat, socks (a must for hot weather!), sunscreen, water and energy snacks are strongly recommended. Parking at Main Beach is by meters unless you park 5 minutes away on Center or Washington Streets and walk to the courts. In the event of rain or other adverse conditions, the instructor will have a message on his office phone machine (477-5201 x1529) by 12:00 PM concerning the status of class that day.

Grading:
All students will receive a letter grade unless special arrangements are approved by the instructor for a “Credit/No Credit” grade. Attendance and arriving on time for class will be considered an important part of a student’s grade. See handout provided for more information on grades. It is the student’s responsibility for adding and dropping a course with the necessary paperwork being submitted to the Admissions Office; failure to do so may result in an “F” or “No Credit” grade. A “W” (Withdraw) grade cannot be given after 75% of the semester is completed. Students are permitted only four semesters of volleyball (any combination of skill levels) for credit while at Cabrillo. If you have taken four volleyball classes, see me about alternatives.

Instructional Books and Videotapes:
The Cabrillo Library has available a number of books and videotapes concerning volleyball technique, strategy, team play, and conditioning. See my web site for extensive volleyball resources, class pictures and all course information.

Special Circumstances:
Students with disabilities, including "invisible" disabilities such as chronic diseases, learning, and psychological disabilities, are encouraged to make an appointment with the instructor to discuss their needs and appropriate accommodations. Should a problem arise during the semester, feel free to call or email the instructor. If a problem or injury develops during class time, let the instructor know immediately so we can deal with it before it becomes too serious.
