Welcome Back Volleyball Enthusiasts,

Thanks for taking a look at our work-in-progress newsletter for the local volleyball community. Please feel free to contribute any relevant information (announcements, commentary, coaching tips, conditioning, injury prevention, etc) to future editions. If at any time you would like to be removed from our subscription list just click on the Unsubscribe button at the bottom.

Tournament Results: "No Attitudes Allowed"™ Beach Tournaments have been completely sold out this summer. See Results and Photos. Tournaments continue until November. See full Schedule. It has also been a big summer for the CBVA: Go here for recent results.

Summer Heat: The hottest item on the beach this summer has not been the temperatures or the fires in the Santa Cruz Mountains, but the very controversial Forum debate about the monopolization of Main Beach by the NCVA.

Indoor: The Capitola Classic Indoor Tournament for September 12, 2009 features both Reverse and Traditional styles of play. Only a few spots remain. Let Phil know right away if you are interested in entering a team.

Training Tips: Eric Hand, Exercise Physiologist, discusses training for explosiveness in volleyball. Jenny Brewer, Certified Nutritionist and Natural Chef, discusses eating for energy.

What's the call?: What are the rule differences between beach and indoor volleyball? Check out the Forum discussions on Rules. While you are there be sure to get registered for the Forum. It is easy and free. (Because it is a free forum you will see some ads generally not worth looking at. Sorry about that!

Classes: Would you like to take a fun and challenging beach volleyball class during the Fall and Winter? It's 4 months of volleyball twice a week for a very inexpensive $52! If beach isn't your game, see our Advanced Indoor Class in Capitola. For some cross-training, how about a hiking class? See our Schedule of Classes.

Helping Out: Don't forget we are collecting old cellphones and energy bar wrappers (foil inside) to raise funds for the Orangutan Conservancy and Save Our Shores.

Get Connected: Here are some links to volleyball groups and email lists near San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

Pro Beach Volleyball: One huge success this summer was the Santa Cruz Corona Wide Beach Open. Read Tournament Director Mark Hull's wrap-up of the event. A link to John Bandhauer's photos from the event can be found here as well.

Health Warning: Plastic water bottles are dangerous, especially at the beach.
Check out this article.

International Coastal Cleanup Day takes place September 19, 2009, the
same day as our next No Attitudes Allowed tournament. Save Our Shores will
be there to distribute bags and gloves so we can clean up Main Beach, our
little slice of heaven on earth.

Until next time, take care, friends! ~Phil
