Feb 5, 2005 UT: Ate Occultation

I brought along the 10" LX200 and PC164c with video gear and at 5:15am got up, drove to Cambria and met Dave Wyman and his photo students for a day of photography. In the evening, the photo group went to dinner while I found a spot in the vacant lot next to our Blue Bird motel in Cambria. Cirrus and an inversion layer with heavy cool air made for poor conditions to see the 11.9 star at only 18 degrees altitude. The cirrus came in and covered the western sky while I was struggling with poor pointing from the 10" (first time I'd used it since we'd had it apart to help test for trouble with the 12" LX200), and with a dead 12V lawn mower battery. These troubles were too much to overcome, and I never saw the target star. The clouds eventually covered the sky.
