Astro 27 / Geo 27 and Astro 28 & 30 require camping fees in order to register. These are similar to lab fees paid for most science lab classes. Dave Schwartz and I must pay for the campgrounds we stay at, usually with a long lead time. Fees for Astro 27/Geo 27 Pinnacles class is held at a private campground and is $17 (no meals, but an expensive campground). For Astro 28 the cost is $15 (includes 3 meals!, usually at less expensive camping locations).
You cannot register for these classes ahead of time on-line as you can with most Cabrillo Classes. Dave and I do not want to be bill-collectors. Hey, we're top-drawer scientists! So, you will need to pay your camping fee before you will be given permission to add the class. Show up at the time shown above in room 705 - the Geology/Oceanography/Astronomy lab room. Bring your camping fee. You can pay by cash or check made out to "Cabrillo College" at the Cabrillo Bookstore using the voucher form you receive from us (so the bookstore knows what account to deposit the money to). Since the classes are popular, often you'll see students forming a line outside this room before the start. Dave and I will begin with some explaining about the classes, distribute some preliminary handouts, and then begin calling up students, in order - Dave will handle Astro27/Geo 27, and I'll handle the Astro 28 classes. We'll give you a signed form which you immediately take to the college bookstore to pay your fee; keep your receipt. We'll also ask you if you have any other classes which may conflict with the field trip class. If so, we'll also give you a yellow "conflict" form with our signatures, and which you'll have to bring to your conflicting class instructor for his signature. And you return this to us (Dave gets the Astro27/Geo 27 forms, bring the Astro 28 forms to me). Now, you're not done yet! When we or the division staff receive the "paid" receipt, we give you an add slip. You take this down (and any "conflict" forms you may need) to the registration people and they register you for the class just like any other class.
Note that the college deadline for registration is the first day the class meets, not the usual 2-weeks into the semester that full-term classes has. So, may have extra time depending on when the class meets. Still, we need to have an accurate count early on and we want to be fair and get people added before they make other plans, so do your registration early.
