finish line video

This was the first time in many years that the Low Key series did this climb, which is such a regular for me. Ferrell was keen to go for it, just a week after the Old La Honda Rd hill climb, and so was I. The weather was crisp and perfect for a hard climb. Mtn Charlie has some steep pitches, at 16-17%, in several places, and is fairly unrelenting especially in the lower stretches. It's a good challenge.

Sign-in was at a church at the north end of Scotts Valley. Scott and Rick rode for Team Spokesman. Me, I rode for Team Nolt!

Time to head up the road a few miles to the actual base of Mtn Charlie.

Ferrell, and new friends from the Los Gatos team at the staging point, just a mile from the start line, where we went off in waves

Fall colors. I snapped a few shots one-armed on my climb.

It was perfect weather and I felt good. I worried a bit about the 16% grades coming up, but they were no problem in these cool temperatures.

Higher up, the road follows a ridge

Low Key photo volunteers took some this shot of Rick near the top

Great smile for the camera!

Ferrell at the finish line - strong finish. Rick stuck close to Scott most of the way up, but Scott pulled away near the line

Benoit, Rick and I. Rick and Benoit parked at the gym in Capitola and rode to the Scotts Valley start, and we all decided to ride up to Summit and across to Old San Jose Rd, where I took a brunch break at the Summit Store and they headed down. But first...

...it's post-race munchies time

Onward, towards Summit Store
