Course
Description:
This class uses
Word 2010 and
Excel 2010. These versions are very different from Word 2003 and Excel
2003,
but not very different from Word and Excel 2007. Starting in Fall
2010 we will be using the Windows 7 operating system, replacing Windows
Vista
and XP. One of the best places to get the Office 2010 software if you
are a
Cabrillo College student is at www.journeyed.com/SELECT. You will need
to
document your college registration and have an e-mail account.
This course is an
introduction to using a computer proficiently in business and college.
It is
appropriate for complete beginners as well as those with a little
computer
experience. Topics include the use of the Windows operating system for
file
management and running programs, introductory word processing,
introductory
spreadsheet use (Excel), e-mail, and using the Internet for research
and
communication. You will learn how to create a simple web page relating
to class
topics. Topics focus on fundamental computer employability standards
identified
by
Recommended

Requirements
This class is based
on active
use of the computer and software, weekly class attendance, and the
completion
of lab exercises and exams. Plan on spending about
4 hours a
week working on the computer or doing other lab assignments in addition
to
coming to class. You can access a computer at the Cabrillo
Computer
Technology Center (CTC), Watsonville Lab or one at home or work if it
is
available to you.
