Course Description:

This class uses Word 2010 and Excel 2010. These versions are very different from Word 2003 and Excel 2003, but not very different from Word and Excel 2007. Starting in Fall 2010 we will be using the Windows 7 operating system, replacing Windows Vista and XP. One of the best places to get the Office 2010 software if you are a Cabrillo College student is at www.journeyed.com/SELECT. You will need to document your college registration and have an e-mail account.

This course is an introduction to using a computer proficiently in business and college. It is appropriate for complete beginners as well as those with a little computer experience. Topics include the use of the Windows operating system for file management and running programs, introductory word processing, introductory spreadsheet use (Excel), e-mail, and using the Internet for research and communication. You will learn how to create a simple web page relating to class topics. Topics focus on fundamental computer employability standards identified by Santa Cruz County educators and employers.

Recommended Preparation:

Eligibility for English 100 and Reading 100 are highly recommended. You will need to read the assignment sheets and online materials with accuracy. Basic arithmetic skills will also be necessary for using the spreadsheet application. (Adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing.)
