Kathryn Adkins
Theater and Music Instructor

MA Theater Arts, BS Drama, BS Music Education,
With Cabrillo College since 1993

Music and drama intertwine. Singularly and together the two art forms express the joys, sorrows and challenges of life throughout the ages. It is the actor who illuminates the human condition so that our common bond may be examined.

My background encompasses training and performance in Musical Theater and drama. I continue to expand my knowledge of voice training for performance of all styles of music and the particular issues associated with the mature voice.
In addition, I've studied stage combat at the Society of Fight Directors national workshop.

My MA is in acting/directing. Directing credits for Cabrillo Theatre Arts department include most recently, "Carrie, the Musical" as well as the premiere production of Kaufman and Perri's "It's A Wonderful Life", "Nice Work If You Can Get It", "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", "The Mikado", "Sweet Charity","Seussical","Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Brigadoon", and "Marat-Sade". In addition, I have directed and performed for companies in the South San Francisco Bay area.

Beyond Cabrillo,I work in the following capacities:
VP Education and co-founder of NextStage Productions, overseeing the development and implementation of performance classes for adults 50+.

Private studio voice instructor.

Chair of the Music Teachers Association of California Santa Cruz branch Certificate of Merit voice evaluations.

Retired chair of the MTAC Santa Cruz branch Talent Bank scholarship competition, held each spring.

Member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing.
