I teach courses on International Relations, Comparative Politics, and American Government.

My greatest passion is working to understand current and historical efforts to deepen democracy. In other words, I'm really interested in the work people in all walks of life do to make the institutions of democracy more equitable, inclusive and participatory.

Community colleges like Cabrillo are among the most important institutions working to deepen democracy in the US today. I'm privileged to be a part of that work and to get to share my passion with students for a living.

My research background focuses on the comparative analysis of Latin American politics, especially interactions between civil society and the state over questions of human rights and the health of democracy.
