With Cabrillo College since 2020

In AP46-A students will be introduced to the basic skills of digital photography editing using Adobe Camera Raw, Bridge, and Photoshop, the industry standard for photo editing. This course will cover techniques and topics of interest to most anyone with a camera. Class lectures and readings will focus on basic aesthetic issues and photographic composition, editing and professional photography techniques, and preparing photographs for professional display. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with various photographic and editing styles through regular assignments as they develop their creative vision. Assignments include emulations, creating composites, and utilizing Photoshop’s tools such as masks, curves, adjustment layers, etc. in their creative editing process. Students will also be introduced to the work of many contemporary photographers and those who have contributed to the art since the inception of photography in the early 1800s.

This course is being offered online in the Fall 2020 due to Covid 19. Students will practice these techniques at home and during optional Zoom sessions with instructor guidance. Students will be given the opportunity to create several projects and a final portfolio of images that to be prepared for quality digital display or printed by a professional print agency.

Neeley Drown left her career in international public policy research for photography after stepping back into the dark room one fateful summer. While she loves being in the dark room, Neeley embraces all forms of photography. She is especially passionate about using digital editing technology in her image making process. Neeley has returned to Northern California after traveling for four years around the world teaching photographic workshops and making her own images. She now focuses on teaching photography and photographic editing to others and arts community development in Oakland where she now lives.
