I discovered my pathway to anthropology right here at Cabrillo College! I am honored and thrilled to now be teaching about this exciting, dynamic, and ever so relevant field. As an applied anthropologist, my passion is in teaching anthropology and promoting education, empathy, and activism, including student service learning in the community.

Other areas of interest & study include food and culture, genetic research and applications, and how this relates to human health, development, and well being. My past research experience was in the applied fields of medical anthropology with a focus on the cultural construction of childbirth practices and in development anthropology, with a focus on social and agrarian change in southern Baja California, Mexico where I have lived and done research off and on over the past 20 years.

I am also involved in high school outreach and encouraging high school students to take advantage of dual enrollment opportunities at Cabrillo. Anthropology courses are an excellent option for high school students and I welcome them in all of my classes!

This Spring 2020, I am teaching the Biological Anthropology Lecture and Lab classes in Watsonville in the evening, Food & Culture in Global Perspective (Anthro 17) at the Aptos campus, and an online Anthro lab. In addition to the office hours listed at left, you can usually find me working in the HUB (2nd Floor of the library at the Aptos campus) so please stop by and say hi or look for me if you need help on anything from any of my classes or at the college in general.
