Shawn N. Ogimachi
With Cabrillo College since 1999
I have had the good fortune to be an Educational Counselor for over 30 years working in the Offices of Admissions, Educational Opportunity Programs, Career Centers, Cal SOAP, General Counseling, Academic Advising, Residential Life, and Counselor Education. My employers have been Hoover High School, Mission Bay High, Humboldt State University, University of California, Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and Cabrillo College. I have served as the Director of Counseling at Cabrillo College and as the Santa Cruz County Career Technical Education Director.
I received my BA from the University of California, San Diego and my MA from San Jose State. I am a member of the counseling faculty at Cabrillo College and the Counselor Education MA Program at San Jose State University. My specialty is Career Counseling and Assessment. I teach the Practicum in Lifespan and Career Development (EDCO 267) and Lifespan Development Theory (EDCO 268) for Counselor Education at SJSU, Counseling and Guidance courses (CG 54, CG 51, and CG 1) for undergraduates at Cabrillo College. I also serve as a PPS Supervisor for counseling interns at schools throughout the Silicon Valley, Monterey Bay and East Bay regions (EDCO 292).
I am an avid instructor, counselor, husband, gardener, and fisherman. I believe career development to be an integral process in human development and success. Educators who understand and incorporate career development in their practice and instruction are of greater value to their students, clients, and colleagues.
On summer furloughs, my wife and I participate in the commercial salmon troll fishery in Southeast Alaska, aboard our 8 meter troller, the FV ITSURO. We harvest the highest quality, line caught, wild, sustainable King and Coho Alaskan Salmon.
