Dance & Kinesiology Instructor
Helen Jackson Jones possesses a broad exposure, understanding and passion for performing arts education. She received her degree in Dance from Mills College. She attended Mills at a time when Luciano Berio, Morton Subotnik and Darius Milhaud were part of the music faculty and Trisha Brown on the dance faculty. In her last year at Mills she was invited to join a touring performance group directed by Trisha Brown. She also studied with Louis Horst, Martha Graham and Jose Limon at Connecticut College.
Helen was a member of the San Francisco based Welland Lathrop Dance Company and performed extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1971 Helen began teaching at Cabrillo College. Over the years she has taught nearly every dance class offered in the department--most recently "re-tooling" to teach Swing and Latin Dance. She has frequently choreographed for Cabrillo Dance Concerts. Helen studied jazz dance for many years with Ed Mock, a master choreographer/teacher who had a unique style that blended modern and jazz with acting and mime. She has also worked as a dance therapist for Dominican Hospital, taught dance at UCSC Extension and served as a guest instructor for the UCSC Performing Arts Program. Most recently Helen appeared in "Prime Movers", a retrospective of Dance in Santa Cruz.
