Undercurrents: The Rising Tide of SJSU MFA Graduates

August 28  – September 22
RECEPTION: Sunday, September 10, 4 – 5:30 p.m.
(Closed for Labor Day, Monday, September 4)

The MFA graduate school experience is an incubator of pivotal transformation. Intense relationships are forged between creative minds in an atmosphere that elevates intellectual curiosity and encourages intense critical thinking about one’s artistic practice and purpose. It is a time for sharpening thought processes and skills, which are then carried forward into the future professional lives of artists.

Undercurrents: The Rising Tide of SJSU MFA Graduates, showcases the work of the 2017 graduates of San Jose State University’s Master of Fine Arts program. This exhibition honors the outcome of the years of hard work and the dedication to artistic excellence and growth that is central to the MFA experience. The diverse works in this exhibition are a testament to each graduate’s deeply focused artistic vision and demonstrate an impressive range of highly honed technical skills across many disciplines and media. Featured artists are: Jackie Baxton – mixed media sculpture, Zach Bohny – painting, Lynn Dau – mixed media sculpture and installation, Carmina Eliason – social practice, Elizabeth Miles – mixed media sculpture, Michal Niv – mixed media sculpture, and Lisa Teng – photography and video.
