Faculty Textbook Adoption Guide

Faculty Questions

SU24 and FA24 bookstore adoptions are due NO LATER THAN April 26th when registration starts. Akademos will need as much lead time as possible to stock required course materials. Please adopt your materials ASAP when the course material portal is available to you. It’s important to have these entered so that students can make informed decisions when registering for classes in compliance with legislative mandates about transparency in course costs, and to ensure adequate supply of textbooks for those who wish to rent or purchase required materials.

Faculty training will be offered via Zoom during the first week of April. The training will be recorded for those who cannot attend. One hour of flex credit will be approved for this training. A one-page PDF with adoption instructions is also available.

Scantrons and Green Books will now be available in Division Offices, only for courses where faculty require these testing materials. Faculty are responsible for providing timely information about the number of scantrons and Green Books their courses will use in order for the Division Office to be adequately stocked. Faculty are also responsible for providing the scantrons and Green Books to students in class at the time of the exam. Faculty can pick up items from their respective Division Office. Students should not be asked to purchase them or pick them up themselves from the Division Offices.

See this one-page OER textbook adoptions guide. Consider also utilizing the "Course Notes" field to provide details and/or a link to the OER material.

For Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) textbook adoptions: Adopt your textbook following the regular instructions, adding a “Course Note” that the book will be available free online and the print copy is optional.

Please contact Aloha Sargent, ZTC Coordinator, for assistance with this: alsargen@cabrillo.edu

Aside from digital or physical textbooks, list required devices such as calculators and software subscriptions. In addition, list all homework systems/access codes, art supplies, uniforms, safety equipment, and other expenses to inform students of these additional costs when they are selecting and registering for classes. Our new Virtual Bookstore platform has space and options to include these items during course material adoption.
