Lucky W.

Lucky W. was working toward getting a nursing degree with most of her general education and pre-requisites completed when she decided to take a chance on herself by taking a couple of CIS courses.

“I realized how many tech opportunities there were in the Bay Area, and I found emerging technology intriguing,” stated Lucky. “I started with a couple of classes to see how I’d do – I wanted to give the best for myself and my family.”

This was her jumpstart toward pivoting toward technology. Being exposed to cybersecurity

fundamentals, she was amazed by the impacts technology plays in everyday life and wanted to be a part of it.

“Cybersecurity is a great field to be in. There are not many women in this field. As a woman and a mother, I thought it important to make this career change.”

Lucky will graduate soon with her CIS degree and is considering transferring to a four-year university.

During her time in the program, Lucky got an internship with Salesforce and later was offered a

permanent position. She currently works at Salesforce as a Security Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) Analyst.

“Being in the program and my decision to advance my education as a woman and mother propelled my career to where I am now. I’m so excited and thankful that I took a chance on myself. Sometimes I was the only woman in class, and I hope telling my story encourages other women and mothers.”
