Basic Horticulture, Business Aspects of Horticulture, Crop Management
& Nursery Production, Edible Landscaping, Greenhouse Operation and Design, Horticultural Therapy,
Irrigation Systems, Landscape Construction and Management, Landscape
Design and Gardening, Landscape Restoration, Native Plants, Organic Agriculture, Hydroponics, Pest
Management, Plant Materials, Sustainable Landscaping, Soils Conservation and Current Topics.
Our new Environmental Horticulture Center and Botanic Gardens was
formally dedicated on Feb. 7, 2003.
The Horticulture Department’s
new site is on 11 beautiful view acres, overlooking the entire
campus and the
Monterey Bay region. The center provides students with an excellent
horticultural educational facility and is a new focus for community
activities. There is a community building with a room for lectures,
conferences, meetings and special events. In addition, the community
center has a classroom, learning center and small retail store
and nursery. A new state-of-the-art nursery includes greenhouses,
shade houses, raised beds, an herbarium and a lab classroom.
Cabrillo College, which already has one of
the largest Salvia collections in the world, will be able to
expand its gardens and plant collections. Significant collections
of California natives, especially those from the Monterey Bay
region, plants from the Mediterranean regions of the world, succulents
and species fuchsias will be further developed at the new Botanic
Gardens. Specialized gardens of exotic foliage plants, gardens
for children, natural habitat gardens and aquatic gardens will
be make their home surrounding the community center.
