The Accounting and Finance Program is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills required for entry-level positions in industry, government, and financial institutions. The knowledge and skills are important for small businesses and new entrepreneurs as well. Our goal is to allow students to transfer and successfully complete a university program and/or to succeed on a career track that will lead to a family-supporting income.


The program includes classroom instruction by experienced faculty and extensive hands-on application with both manual and computerized accounting systems. You can take classes to enrich your job, earn short-term certificates to get to employment faster, and/or earn an associate degree that transfers to a senior college or university program.

Degrees and Certificates

The program offers an Associate in Science Accounting degree and six vocational certificates You can earn a certificate in as little as one year! The Accounting and Finance Program also provides courses required for a student to transfer to most colleges and universities in California and across the United States.

Through time spent in our program, you will be able to choose from a variety of careers in the accounting world with in-demand, transferable skills. Read more about what the accounting and finance department offers.

Accounting and Finance graduates may be involved in recording business transactions, constructing financial statements, preparing budgets and tax returns, auditing financial records, advising businesses, and working for government and not-for-profit agencies, to name just a few opportunities. More job positions are currently available than students graduating to fill those positions, with even more employment opportunities expected to continue to grow in the foreseeable future.

Explore how to prepare, communicate, use, and analyze accounting information with an emphasis on accounting theory and critical thinking in business decision-making.

Managerial Accounting

ACCT 1B

Learn how to use accounting information to direct and control operations, including cost terminology and concepts, cost behavior, and cost structure.

Individual Income Tax

ACCT 54A

Study federal and California tax principles and compliance with a focus on individual taxpayers and computerized tax projects. This course qualifies for California Tax Preparer (CTEC) Qualifying Education.

Using QuickBooks

ACCT 163 / ACCT 463*

Learn QuickBooks from the accounting practitioner's perspective, including how to set up new businesses, enter data, locate information, and analyze financial statements.
