Once have your placement recommendations, your next step is to choose your classes. Review the information below and then make your selections. Then, make a counseling appointment to develop your Education Plan.

What's My Math Requirement?

All degrees have at least one math requirement. In the case of some majors, additional math classes may be required. Courses listed below are for planning purposes only, make an appointment with an  academic counselor to ensure you are taking the appropriate courses to reach your academic goal.

I Want To Complete a Non-transfer Cabrillo Associate’s Degree

ALL Cabrillo College AA and AS degrees have a Math Competency Graduation Requirement.  There are two (2) options to satisfy this requirement:

  1. In high school: complete Algebra II or Common Core Math III with a C- or better. Submit your official high school transcripts to clear this requirement. 

  2. At Cabrillo College: complete: Math 152: Intermediate Algebra (or higher level math) with a C or better.

I Want To Transfer and Complete a Bachelor's Degree

All BA and BS degrees have at least one General Education (GE) math requirement  (GE Area CSU B4 and UC/IGETC Area 2). Math courses should be selected based on the lower-division major preparation requirements at the intended transfer university. Specific requirements can be found at www.assist.org the official transfer and articulation system for California’s public colleges and universities. 

Options for Mathematics Review and Preparation

MATH 152 Intermediate Algebra is strongly  recommended for majors with calculus-based course requirements: MATH 4, 13 and 18.  Especially if you did not take or complete Algebra II or Common Core Math III in high school. Satisfies prerequisite for Chemistry 3, 3L, 30A and 32.

  • MathPLUS!  Get a Jump start and be ready to succeed in your math class from Day 1.
      • Meets before the semester begins
      • 1 or 2 weeks, day or evening, Aptos or Watsonville
      • FREE Food and all materials provided
  • Math 350A and 350B: topics include arithmetic, beginning algebra and geometry 

  • Math 360 A-F: topics include beginning and intermediate algebra

Arts and Humanities: Art History, Art Photography, Art Studio, Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, Dance, Early Childhood Education, English, History, Journalism, Liberal Arts, Music, Philosophy, Theater Arts, Women’s Studies, World Languages.

Choose one to satisfy your GE requirement:  

  • MATH 10 Survey of College Mathematics 

  • MATH 12 Elementary Statistics.  Can be taken alone or with MATH 101 Support for Statistics

  • BUS 9 Business Statistics

  • PSYCH 2A Statistics for Behavioral Sciences 

Business Administration and Economics

One or several may be required for GE and your major.  Besides a statistics course, business and economics majors will need to take additional math courses.  Specific math requirements can be found on ASSIST but often include Math 18 or 13 or 4 or 5A.  

  • MATH 4 Precalculus.  Can be taken alone or with MATH 103 Support for Precalculus
  • MATH 5A Calculus I
  • MATH 12 Elementary Statistics. Can be taken alone or with MATH 101 Support for Statistics
  • BUS 9 Business Statistics
  • MATH 13 Finite Mathematics
  • MATH 18 Business Calculus. Can be taken alone or with Math 102 Support for Business Calculus

Elementary (K-8) Teacher Education

Required:

  • MATH 15 Number Systems

Psychology

One or several may be required for GE and your major.  CSU campuses typically require statistics only (Math 12 or Psych 2A).  However, some Psychology programs require additional mathematics. Specific math requirements can be found on ASSIST but often include Math 18 or Math 4 or Math 5A.

  • MATH 4 Precalculus.  Can be taken alone or with MATH 103 Support for Precalculus

  • MATH 5A Calculus I

  • MATH 12 Elementary Statistics. Can be taken alone or with MATH 101 Support for Statistics

  • PSYCH 2A Statistics for Behavioral Sciences

    Completion of or concurrent enrollment in PSYCH 1 or SOC 1 is required for PSYCH 2A.

  • MATH 18 Business Calculus.  Can be taken with Math 102 Support for Business Calculus

  • MATH 4 Precalculus. Can be taken alone or with MATH 103 Support for Precalculus 

Social and Applied Science: Agriculture Plant Sciences, Anthropology, Communication Studies, Criminal Justice, Fire Technology, Geography, Health Science/Community Health, Nursing, Kinesiology, Political Science and Sociology

Choose one to satisfy your GE requirement:  

  • MATH 12 Elementary Statistics. Can be taken alone or with MATH 101 Support for Statistics

  • BUS 9 Business Statistics

  • PSYCH 2A Statistics for Behavioral Sciences

STEM*: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, General Science, Geology, Mathematics and Physics *Pre-Med and Architecture majors: select STEM. See an academic counselor for specific requirements.

Required:

  • MATH 4 Precalculus. Can be taken alone or with MATH 103 Support for Precalculus 
    • MATH 5A Calculus I
      • MATH 5B Calculus II
  • Each major listed will likely have math requirements beyond Math 5A and 5B.
