The Arts, Media, and Entertainment sector requires perhaps the greatest cross-disciplinary interaction.

The work has a propensity to be largely project-based, requiring both independent work and interdependent management skills for career success. New technologies are also constantly reshaping the boundaries and skill set required, leading to a constantly evolution of artistic imagination, metaphoric representation, symbolic connections, and technical skills. Careers in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment sector fall into four general pathways: Design, Visual, and Media Arts; Performing Arts; Production and Managerial Arts; and Game Design and Integration.

Podcasting Certificate of Completion (Noncredit)
1-2 Semesters

The Podcasting Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to prepare students to begin writing and producing podcasts utilizing a digital audio workstation (DAW). The emphasis is on introducing basic audio production skills and on developing strong broadcast writing skills that can be adapted to any medium. Topics include analog/digital theory, signal flow, microphones, mic techniques, mixing, equalizers, editing and recording in a DAW, writing for documentary, legal and ethical standards, hosting, interviewing, and edits pre- and post-production. Students will have individual lab time for hands-on experience. Upon completion, students will be able to create podcasts for current employers, apply for entry level jobs in broadcasting and audio technology, and start their own podcasting series. May be offered in distance-learning format.

Digital Music Production Certificate of Achievement
2 Semesters

The Digital Music Production Certificate of Achievement is designed for students who would like to learn to produce music professionally using a digital audio workstation (DAW). Students will learn music production skills such as: sequencing, working with virtual instruments, synthesis, sampling, using effects, creating sound design, writing to picture, using controllers, composing, arranging, editing, and mixing. The program focuses on hands-on learning in Cabrillo’s music technology studios and labs alongside lecture courses. This certificate provides the foundation to join the workforce in entry level jobs such as music producer, production assistant, music licensing, commercial music production, or to continue to an associate’s degree.

Game Audio Production Certificate of Completion (Noncredit)
1 Semester

The Game Audio Production Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to introduce techniques of audio production for video games, including creating sound effects, ambiences, and dialog as well as integrating these into a game using audio middleware. Advances students to be able to create adaptive music, interactive mixing, and integrate these into a game using audio middleware. The certificate prepares students for job opportunities in Audio/Sound Design and Technical Sound Design. May be offered in a distance-learning format.

Digital Illustration Certificate of Achievement
2 Semesters

The Digital Illustration Certificate of Achievement provides the foundational skill sets to translate traditional and non-traditional concepts in digital media to create non-photographic illustrative content for print and digital purposes. Students learn how to work with basic illustrative digital tools such as vector, raster, and bitmap graphics. The certificate explores different techniques of modifying existing drawings and photo modification/manipulation for illustrative purposes. Students gain skills in project management, color-theory, content creation, and industry-standard software, such as Adobe.

This certificate prepares students for entry-level digital illustration careers in graphic design, desktop publishing, multimedia design, motion graphics, product design, user interface and experience, and more. It provides the skills to increase value in current employment and marketability for students who may already be employed in these fields.

Web Design Certificate of Achievement
2 Semesters

The Web Design Certificate of Achievement provides students with foundational concepts in web design, coding languages, accessibility best practices, and the skills to identify the needs of the target audience in real-world applications. The certificate teaches students how to efficiently create and maintain responsive websites using current technology, combining foundational concepts of writing valid HTML/CSS code with accessibility best practices. Students will be able to create attractive and functional web design projects from concept to the finished product.

This certificate will prepare students for entry-level careers in web design and provide students with foundational web design knowledge for use in various professional settings as they join the workforce or as they acquire continuing education in their current profession.

Art and Maker Entrepreneurship Online Certificate of Completion (Noncredit)
1-2 Semesters

The Art and Maker Entrepreneurship Online Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to introduce students to various forms of tools and technology to market and display artwork and handmade products online. Topics include using tools strategically for self-promotion and creation of procedures for processing and selling art in an online marketplace. Students prepare their art for display, describe product(s), write effective content, and discover ways to reach potential buyers or collectors of their art. Students will have the opportunity to either learn about leading social media platforms and tools, platform users, and the transformation of the way we professionally connect and interact or learn the tools and techniques for photographing products such as small objects, food, or art with a smartphone or introductory camera. Upon completion of this certificate, students will be prepared to sell products in an online marketplace. May be offered in a distance-learning format.
