My name is Anny Mogollón, and I am the eldest of four children raised by Peruvian parents. I am also the first in my family to obtain a Ph.D. I transferred from community college and completed my undergraduate studies in Comparative Literature and English at UCLA. During my senior year at UCLA, I got the opportunity to study abroad in Dublin, Ireland, which led to my decision to apply to the JET program and teach English in Japan. I returned to the United States after five years. I obtained my M.A. in English with a concentration in 20th American Literature from CSULB, and my doctorate in Literature with an emphasis in both Critical Race and Ethnic Studies and Feminist Studies from UCSC.
At Cabrillo, I teach English C1000 and C1001 as well as English 39 (Latine and Chicane Literature) and English 49/549 (Language of Film). I am also one of the teaching faculty in the UMOJA Community. This Fall semester, I am teaching the Honors Colloquium 1 and 2.
