Hi. Syd Jones, your instructor for ESL 100/300. I began my career as an ESL teacher when living in Europe for almost two decades. I know what it is like to live and work in a foreign language and I have great respect for those who are navigating in a second (or perhaps third or fourth) language.

I am also a professional writer with twenty published books of fiction and nonfiction (see my website, http://www.jsydneyjones.com/). I love working with students to share what I have learned about writing, from creating a simple summary to a much larger research paper.

I look forward to working with you to strengthen your command of writing and help prepare for a successful career in college and in life.

Notes for Spring 2021
ESL 100/300 Zoom class session: T/TH 6:00 - 8:05PM

ESL 100 and ESL 300 will be offered using a hybrid remote teaching model. There will be two required Zoom meetings each week (times shown above) that provide instruction and discussion, and where students and the instructor interact. Group and pair work on interpersonal communication also takes place in breakout rooms, especially for speaking practice. The balance of the course takes place via Canvas, where students will find ample practice and learning options such as videos, online activities, readings, writing assignments, etc.

Click on the Canvas link on the Cabrillo homepage, cabrillo.edu, to access your online course.

Enrolled and waitlisted students: Two weeks before the first class, you will receive a welcome email telling how to join the first Zoom class session. If you do not receive this information or if you have any questions, feel free to email me: syjones[AT]cabrillo.edu.

Be sure Cabrillo has your current email address. Please verify that the email you provided in Self-Service is one you check regularly.

The Spring 2021 semester begins Tuesday, January 26. If the class you want is full, be sure to get on the waitlist so that you will receive instructions about how to attend the first Zoom session.
