Dr. Joyner serves as the Dean of ACCESS, Academic Counseling, Career and Educational Support Services at Cabrillo College. In this role, she oversees Academic Counseling, the Accessibility Support Center, Learning Communities Center, Transfer Services, International Student Services, First Year Experience, TRIO, and Orientation. Her work is rooted in a strong commitment to student access, equity, and comprehensive support services that promote student success and completion.
Lisa brings more than 20 years of experience in Student Affairs and higher education leadership. Prior to joining Cabrillo College, she served as the Vice President for Student Success and Student Life at the University of Houston–Downtown. She previously held the position of Dean of Students at Arizona State University, where she supported diverse student populations through large-scale student success initiatives, student engagement efforts, and integrated support services.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Education and a master’s degree in Health Education from Sam Houston State University, as well as a Doctorate of Social Work from the University of Southern California. Lisa’s professional focus centers on inclusive leadership, student well-being, and the development of systems and structures that ensure all students feel supported, valued, and positioned to succeed.
