Common Course Numbering (CCN)

Frequently Asked Questions

The California Community College system is implementing a Common Course Numbering (CCN) system to make transferring between Community Colleges easier fro students . Under Assembly Bill 1111 (Berman), courses with the same content will have the same number across all community colleges in California.

The Common Course Numbering project aims to streamline the transfer process for students across California. By making some of the common courses align with the same number and title, students can better navigate the transfer process from one college to another.

CCN courses are easy to spot! They have a "C" in the catalog number, for example, ENGL 1A is now ENGL C1000. Keep scrolling to see a list of impacted courses and their former and new names.

Courses have been grouped into three phases, with the most common courses in the first phase with an effective date of Fall 2025. Future academic years will include a growing number of courses going through this process.

Courses taken in a past semester under the previous course name should still transfer and fulfill graduation requirements due to Catalog Rights.

Check with an Academic Counselor to review your specific graduation and/or transfer goals.
