Below are a collection of podcasts and videos ranging from interviews with professionals in various occupations, tutorials on a variety of career exploration resources, and career self-guided workshops; one of which provide students with access to a career assessment through the online career exploration tool, Career Coach.

Career Podcast: What to Be

What to Be is a local radio show hosted by Your Future Is Our Business, a Santa Cruz non-profit which helps students explore careers. They interview and highlight the careers of inspirational people in Santa Cruz County and ask them to tell us what their job is really like, and how they got there!

  • The show airs Sundays at 7pm 90.7fm KSQD Santa Cruz, or streamed online at ksqd.org. New episodes uploaded every week!

Candid Career

Introduction

Candid Career provides video interviews of industry professionals sharing their unique advice and experiences to give students a glimpse of what the future might hold! Videos are brief, between 1 and 5 minutes long. There's something for everyone as videos assist students with major and career exploration, internships, job search, grad school questions, and professional development.

Students can view the videos in the Career Profiles series for informational interviews with professionals in hundreds of different fields. There are currently over 8,300 individual interviews that are being added to every year. They can check out the Get Hired series for advice on resumes, interviewing, and business etiquette for landing jobs and internships.

Students can also use the search bar and search the videos by industry, occupation, college major, or career advice areas (resumes, interviewing, grad school). To access Candid Career, go to the Career Web Resources webpage, there you will find a direct link to Candid Career.

Introduction

Career Coach lets you find regional labor market information, explore occupations/career options, review wage and employment projections, view related job postings, and find out what programs Cabrillo College offers that relates to your interest area(s). Occupational Outlook Handbook

Introduction

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. Revised every two years, the Handbook describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, expected job prospects in a wide range of occupations, and links to professional associations.

Introduction

The O*NET program is the nation's primary source of occupational information. Central to the project is the O*NET database, containing information on hundreds of standardized and occupation-specific descriptors. The database also provides the basis for our Career Exploration Tools, a set of valuable assessment instruments for workers and students looking to find or change careers.

  • Internships allow you to gain valuable hands on experience to help build your resume.
