LGBTQIA+ Guide

Welcome

Cabrillo College is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment where all students and employees have equitable support, access, and opportunities to succeed. State and federal law protects transgender and queer members of our community from gender-based harassment and discrimination.

Affirmed Name and Gender Policy

Students are able select the first name and gender they would like used on internal college records including class rosters, grade books, and student planning. Cabrillo College is in the process of extending this practice to Canvas and other campus databases. To update your student information to include your chosen name and gender, fill out and submit a Change of Information Form, available HERE. If you are unable to access the form, please contact Admissions and Records. To learn more about why chosen names, genders, and personal pronouns matter, click HERE.

Gender-Neutral Bathrooms

Identifying gender-neutral bathrooms is part of the Cabrillo College's mission in cultivating a more humanizing space on campus. For a list of gender-neutral restrooms on the Aptos campus and at the Watsonville Center, click HERE. For a list in Spanish, click HERE.

Confidential Point of Contact

  • Listen confidentially - nothing you share is reported unless you say so in writing.

  • Give you clear information about campus policies, Title IX protections, and services.

  • Connect you to the right offices or resources if you decide you want action taken.

  • Support you first - no pressure, no surprises.

  • The CPC is not required to report sexual harassment to Title IX staff unless you want them to.

  • They do not investigate complaints or make decisions about policy violations.

  • If the CPC is also a mandated reporter (for things like child abuse), they must still follow state law.
